More than 2,100 people have already had their say on our Plan for Homes, Jobs and the Environment

MORE than 2,100 people have already had their say on Greater Manchester’s Plan for Homes, Jobs and the Environment, with dozens of residents and partners attending engagement events ensuring as many people as possible are finding out about the plans.

The consultation for the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework opened last month and runs until Monday, March 18 2019.

Since then more than 2,100 people have had their say at www.gmconsult.org and by post and email. A number of events have been held across Greater Manchester, including local events where residents can hear about the plans for their area. More than sixty of these are planned for throughout the consultation across the city-region.

Events have also been held with key partners and stakeholders over the last few weeks to allow them to quiz the likes of Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham and Greater Manchester Leader for Housing Paul Dennett about the plans.

This has included events in MediaCity and at the Mustard Tree in Manchester where groups including developers, housing providers and the Voluntary, Charity and Social Enterprise sector have had the opportunity  to make sure their views are included in the plan.

The consultation and event details have also been extensively promoted on social media, both by the GMCA and the 10 Greater Manchester councils.

Mayor of Salford and Greater Manchester Housing Lead, Paul Dennett, said: “We have always wanted this to be a plan for everyone in Greater Manchester and the only way we can be confident of this is by as many people as possible having their say.

“We listened to the response to the 2016 plan and have produced this radical redraft which will improve the city-region for generations to come.

“This plan lays out the foundations for the radical reform across housing, growing our economy and creating jobs, the environment, and transport to ensure Greater Manchester continues to thrive and we need the support of local people to do that.

“Collaboration is the only way we will be able to produce a plan to make this one of the best places in the world to grow up, get on and get old.”

Once the consultation closes, analysis of the feedback and responses will take place before being published. A second phase of consultation will then be held in Autumn 2019 and in March 2020 we will submit the plan for examination by independent Inspectors. It is currently predicted the final plan will be adopted and in late 2020/early 2021.
