Councillor Cliff Morris has combined a successful business career with service to his community.

He is the portfolio lead for culture, arts and leisure.

While training as a chef at Bolton Technical College, Cllr Morris went on to work part-time for a popular Bolton catering firm at the age of 16, which he later went on to manage, for the next 44 years.

Cllr Morris was elected as a Councillor for Halliwell Ward in 1983 and he has held a number of influential positions; heavily involved in health, education and social services, as a committed advocate for children and young people. He currently holds the portfolio for Children’s Services on the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.

Since taking the reins as Leader of Bolton Council in 2006, he has overseen an ambitious regeneration strategy that has once again seen Bolton flourish into one of the major economic centres in the region.

Bolton boasts the largest logistics site in the North West of England; the innovative University of Bolton campus; one of the finest Egyptology collections in the UK; a unique retail and leisure offer at the historic Market Place Shopping Centre; and the North West’s biggest Food and Drink Festival, annually showcasing the best of Bolton, to crowds from far and wide.
