We know that Greater Manchester needs more, good quality homes. We’re working hard to identify suitable land and attract developers and investors to build the homes we need.
But since the housing market crashed in 2008, it's been hard for home buyers to get a mortgage and for developers to find funding. It means only around 3,000 new homes are being built every year, far fewer than we need.
Our ‘GM Place’ initiative with the government's Homes and Communities Agency is our strategic approach to accelerating the pace of new homebuilding. It's a link to the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework and finance opportunities like the new Greater Manchester Housing Fund.
The Housing Market Monitor is an up-to-date overview of the Greater Manchester housing market; property prices, the rental market and new-build statistics.
