Fire and Rescue Service

The Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, is responsible for making high-level decisions around budgets and strategies relating to fire and rescue services in Greater Manchester. He also has the powers to establish a Fire Committee to oversee the day-to-day functions of the service, monitoring operations, performance and finances.

These responsibilities were previously held by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Authority, which was abolished following the Greater Manchester mayoral election in 2017.
