Update on Greater Manchester’s European Social Fund allocation

Greater Manchester has received a revised £133m allocation from the European Social Fund (ESF), which supports activities that improve employment opportunities, promote social inclusion and invest in skills in EU member states. The funding is scheduled to run from 2014 to 2020.

As a result of this funding Greater Manchester has launched two calls for projects:

  • £5m for pre-employment support for marginalised groups via the Big Lottery Fund.
  • £11.5m for GM Skills for Employment Pilot Programme through the Skills Funding Agency (SFA). The first stage of which is supported by the Local Growth Fund.

Outcomes on both will be announced shortly. In addition the GM Working Well Expansion programme, which is current procuring two contracts, will be supported by the ESF.

Further calls for projects are currently being developed with a call for early intervention programmes for 15-18 year olds, particularly those not in education, employment and training (NEET) scheduled to be launched in mid-December.

A more detailed update on the ESF 2014-2020 programme and future calls can be found here. Public consultations on calls will be announced on this website.
