Fast Track Fund Case Study
Upskilling unemployed & low paid residents
In the Greater Manchester Digital Blueprint, we identified our vision is to create a critical mass of digital talent, positioning Greater Manchester as the key place for businesses seeking a digitally-skilled workforce to invest in outside of London.
The Fast Track Digital Workforce Fund, was developed to support both Greater Manchester and Lancashire residents with accessible routes into digital employment, specifically targeting disadvantaged groups and those underrepresented to help them get into digital roles.
The fund which is a joint venture between the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and Lancashire Digital Skills Partnership (LDSP) was designed to address locally identified digital skills gaps. In 2020 the fund also received an exciting extension funded by the Department for Education.
SharpFutures (external website) received funding through the Fast Track Fund to deliver their short-form content creation course. The programme which was delivered in partnership with ITV, was an 8-20 training course designed to upskill unemployed or low paid residents for short-form content creation roles e.g. as content producers.
One of the programme graduates, Danny produced a video which documents their experience throughout the training course.
