How will it work?

There are four key ambitions for Skills for Growth, which will form a constant loop throughout the three-year programme. They are:
• Developing the skills system
• Gathering intelligence from business
• Supporting individuals
• Delivering learning
One of our key partners, The Growth Company, was commissioned as part of the Skills for Growth programme in 2020 to deliver ‘Skills for Growth - SME Support’ – an expert consultation service giving all businesses across the city-region a free opportunity to receive tailored advice to help up-skill employees and improve productivity.
In addition to this service, Skills for Growth – SME Support has also compiled a GM Skills Map, which acts as a one-stop-shop connecting businesses, residents and training providers with learning opportunities across the city region.
Skills for Growth aims to develop the skills system by focusing on Level 3 qualifications and above that are flexible enough to respond to employers' needs.
Throughout the programme, we will gather intelligence from businesses, which will be used to shape new training programmes. This unique and truly employer-led approach means that we create a solution that is fit for purpose.
In addition to working with businesses and training providers, targeted activity will be delivered to support priority groups to increase their skills levels.
In particular, this will include Greater Manchester's ageing population, people who are low paid and women in employment.
