Mayor announces new portfolios for GMCA Leaders
Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, has unveiled the new portfolios which each Greater Manchester Combined Authority member will head up for the city-region.
The GMCA is made up of 11 members, who are the leaders of the 10 Greater Manchester councils, the Mayor and also the Deputy Mayor for Policing, Crime, Criminal Justice and Fire, Baroness Beverley Hughes. Each leader is given a policy brief by the Mayor which they lead on for Greater Manchester.
The Mayor also appoints an additional Deputy Mayor from amongst GMCA Leaders, a role Sir Richard Leese has fulfilled since 2017. City Mayor of Salford, Paul Dennett will now become Deputy Mayor of Greater Manchester, following Sir Richard Leese stepping down as Leader of Manchester City Council. Paul Dennett will retain his Housing, Homelessness & Infrastructure portfolio. The new Leader of Manchester City Council, Cllr Bev Craig will take up the Education, Skills, Work & Apprenticeships and Digital portfolio.
