THE Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, has announced the new portfolios which each Greater Manchester Combined Authority member will lead on for the city-region.
The GMCA is made up of 11 members, who are the leaders of the 10 Greater Manchester councils, the Mayor and also the Deputy Mayor for Policing, Crime, Criminal Justice and Fire, Baroness Beverley Hughes. Each leader is given a policy brief by the Mayor which they lead on for Greater Manchester.
Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham said: “I would like to pay tribute to departing Greater Manchester Combined Authority leaders Councillor Arooj Shah, Councillor Elise Wilson and Councillor Brenda Warrington. Thank you for your hard work and contribution to the Combined Authority.
“We now welcome new leaders Councillor Mark Hunter, as lead for Young People, Councillor Amanda Chadderton, as lead for Equalities, Inclusion and Cohesion and Councillor Ged Cooney, as our lead for Communities and Co-operatives. They and our other Leaders will work with me in implementing our vision to make Greater Manchester more greener, fairer and prosperous.
“On making the city-region greener, we have Councillor Martyn Cox leading on Green City Region and Waste and Councillor Andrew Western on Clean Air as well as Place Based Regeneration and Housing.
“To make us a fairer place to live and work and our improve our well-being, congratulations to Greater Manchester’s Deputy Mayor and Salford City Mayor, Paul Dennett, who takes on the Healthy Lives and Quality Care portfolio as well as continuing to lead on Homelessness, Councillor Neil Emmott takes on the Culture brief and Deputy Mayor, Bev Hughes, remains our lead on Police and Fire.
“To get us to where we want to be on making Greater Manchester more prosperous, Councillor Bev Craig has stepped into the role of Economy, Business and International portfolio lead, while Councillor Eamonn O’Brien takes on Education, Skills, Work, Apprenticeships and Digital, and Councillor David Molyneaux remains as our Resources and Investment Lead.
“I look forward to working with our new leadership team as we build on our achievements so far, while working together in our collective ambition to improve the lives of people who live and work in our city-region.”
