Recycling centre to close for up to 12 months for vital improvement works
- Reliance Street Household Waste and Recycling Centre to close for up to 12 months from 8pm on Sunday, June 29 for major improvement works
- The improvements will result in a more modern recycling centre for local residents with more parking bays, more space for recycling containers and a donation container for items too good to throw away
- A new Renew Shop will also sell pre-loved household items that have been repaired and renewed, ready to be sold at an affordable price to raise money for charity
The Reliance Street recycling centre in Newton Heath, Manchester, will close for up to 12 months from 29 June.
This is due to major improvement works at the recycling centre, which will bring many benefits to the local residents that use it. The improvements include more parking bays for a better flow of traffic, more space for recycling containers to recycle more types of items, and a donation container for items too good to throw away. A Renew shop will also be installed at the site.

Changes are being made to the site to improve the recycling facilities and access for users. As a result of the improvements, the site will no longer need to close for short periods throughout the day when full containers are moved and changed.
Cllr Tom Ross, GMCA lead for Green City-Region and Waste, said:
“These improvement works at our Reliance Street site are essential and it’s great that work will be getting underway soon.
“Adding a donation container and a Renew Shop are a particular benefit to the residents that use Reliance Street, with the money raised going to many great causes.”
Andrew Bewicke, Regional Manager at SUEZ said:
“Local residents will see a much more modern recycling centre when these improvement works are complete. These are exciting changes which will allow us to collect more types of items for recycling and provide a better customer experience.”
