The Greater Manchester Strategy commits to supporting ‘young people to engage positively in their communities’ and Bury Council Leader, David Jones, holds this portfolio and works with children and young people across Greater Manchester, to ensure they start school ready to learn, to give them a voice and ensure all they have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Following David's appointment, Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham said: “Young people are at the heart of my plan for Greater Manchester and deserve a strong voice in the decisions that ultimately affect them. By appointing David as the portfolio holder for Young People and Social Cohesion and raising this role to become part of my leadership team, I am inviting every young person to work with us to ensure they have the opportunities they need to get on in life".
Cllr David Jones said: ““Our young people deserve every chance to fulfil their potential and get the skills, education and job opportunities they need. That’s why it’s essential that we work together across Greater Manchester, especially with young people themselves, to make our city-region the best location for them in which to live, work and study.”
