Greater Manchester Private Rented Sector Tenant Survey

The Private Rented Sector Tenant Survey received responses from over 1200 people living in private rented accommodation across Greater Manchester. The results are statistically representative of those who live in the private rented sector. The survey asked respondents questions in relation to:

  • Tenant characteristics (including ethnicity, disability & sexual orientation)
  • Tenancy length and details
  • Satisfaction with property, landlord & private renting overall
  • Looking for rental properties (e.g. ease of finding a rental property)
  • Problems experienced
  • Finances/ rent
  • What makes a good landlord

Greater Manchester Private Rented Sector Landlord Survey

The Private Rented Sector Landlord Survey received responses from over 350 landlords who own private rented accommodation across Greater Manchester. The results are not statistically representative of all private landlords renting properties across Greater Manchester. The results provide an insight to the views of those who respond to the survey and do not seek to be representative of all landlords.

The results provide a new source of information around landlords views and experiences. Insights are provided in relation to; landlord portfolio, demographic characteristics, management practices, attitude on what makes a good landlord and approach to rent and letting properties.

Landlord Accreditation Scheme Literature Review

The Landlord Accreditation Scheme Literature Review sets out existing landlord accreditation schemes in the private rented sector for the purpose of seeing how wide or narrow the scope of expectation is on landlords for carrying out their responsibilities, such as housing quality, housing management and tenant relationships, and summarising the different ways in which schemes for accrediting landlords are run.

Local Housing Allowance Freeze in Greater Manchester Note

Local Housing Allowance (LHA) rates have been frozen since April 2020 level, during which time private rents have experienced unprecedented growth. The GMCA have produced a note setting out the findings of new research by Dataloft, looking at what the impact of the freeze has been on affordability for low-income private tenants, many of whom are unable to access social housing.
