Skills Gaps in Greater Manchester

In 2020, GMCA formed a new Skills Intelligence team that played a key role in informing and developing the Skills for Growth programme.

Supported by Skills for Growth – SME Support, the intelligence team spent time engaging with employers in the programme’s priority industries to understand the skills gaps and hard-to-fill vacancies in both large and small employers.

This information was then matched against existing skills provision across the city-region, in order to identify gaps in the current skills landscape and work to resolve these through commissioning innovative training opportunities.

The insights provided by the Skills Intelligence team were compiled into reports, which were then used to inform the design of new training workshops and courses.

A constant feedback loop was created to ensure the programme remained current and to inform next steps.
