Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Cybersecurity Awareness Month (external website) is a collaboration between government and private industry to raise awareness about digital security and empower everyone to protect their personal data from digital forms of crime.

Declaration refresh workshops - Open Data Manchester (various)

Data, and the systems that underpin it, are transforming our world. This has opened up incredible possibilities, but also significant challenges and risks. To respond to this, Open Data Manchester brought together people from across Greater Manchester to create a Declaration on Responsible and Intelligent Data Practice. These 23 principles are about how to realise the benefits of data use, whilst countering the risks. Open Data Manchester now need your help to think about how data use is changing our world, and how they should respond. International Day of Older Persons - we'll share the role digital can play in supporting our older residents.

Who are we: Making Sense of the Census.

There is a wealth of data available from the 2021 census, a decadal poll of who we are, what we do and where we live. Join this session from Open Data Manchester - a chance to dig into some of this data and share insights about what the census does and doesn't contain. Bring a device if you want to get your hands dirty, if not you can team up with others or listen to the expert advice on hand. 5th October

Fixing the digital divide: for a digital society. 

This event will share learning and success from Greater Manchester’s own Digital Inclusion Agenda for Change, with a specific focus on the recently piloted Get Online Greater Manchester: for social housing residents – an initiative bringing together five of the UK's largest internet service providers, social housing providers and local authorities to explore roles in driving digital participation and tackling social exclusion in social housing settings. Social housing providers and internet service providers have a significant role to play in addressing key challenges around digital inclusion and in driving basic standards of infrastructure for all. Ada Lovelace Day

To celebrate Digital Her is running two events to continue to inspire women around careers in tech. Ada Lovelace was the first person to foresee the potential of the computer, including the ability to create music and art, and her vision went unrecognised for a century. You can sign up to Ada Lovelace Day events on October 10 here: 

14th October

Tech Time: to get digital! Various events for Wigan residents.

During the day there will be a range of free digital activities and digital support on offer.  There’ll also be a marketplace where you can find out more about the great support services on offer across the borough. Find out more on Tech Time: to get digital! (external website).

18th October

Cyber Apprentice Day Manchester 2023

DiSH and Cisco are proud to host a cybersecurity event at the GM Digital Security Hub (DiSH). This event promises to be an invaluable opportunity for apprentices/seekers to gain insights, network, and be inspired by leading professionals in the cybersecurity industry. ISPA Conference

16th - 22nd October

Get Online Week 

Get Online Week is an annual campaign run by leading digital inclusion charity Good Things Foundation (external website), who power the National Device Bank (external website), National Databank, Learn My Way and the National Digital Inclusion Network. For one week in October, their network of community partners host hundreds of free digital skills events to help people to get online safely, confidently and affordably.
